In a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Malawi, ICTWORKS launched an impactful initiative on December 20, 2024, aimed at enhancing digital literacy among students in rural communities. This program, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education, aligns with the Malawi 2063 agenda, which emphasizes the role of technology in achieving sustainable development and economic growth.
The initiative targets secondary schools in rural areas, where access to technology and ICT training has historically been limited. ICTworks team, led by Managing Consultant Norman Chisenga, has committed to providing hands-on training sessions for students, focusing on practical skills that prepare them for a tech-driven future. Students are being introduced to cloud-based tools such as QuickBooks Online and Sage Business Cloud, which are widely used in modern business environments for accounting, payroll, and financial management.
“Our goal is to empower the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” said Norman Chisenga during the launch event at Mchinji Secondary School. “By teaching students how to use tools like QuickBooks Online, we’re not only enhancing their employability but also fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Malawi.”
The training program includes workshops on basic computer literacy, online collaboration tools, and an introduction to financial software, ensuring students gain a well-rounded understanding of ICT applications. ICTworks has also donated refurbished computers to participating schools, further supporting their access to technology. Violet Chisenga, Director of Operations at ICTworks , emphasized the importance of collaboration in this initiative: “Working with the Ministry of Education has allowed us to reach more students and make a lasting impact. We’re excited to see how this program will shape the future of these young minds.”
Over the next six months, ICTworks MW plans to expand the program to 10 additional schools across Malawi, with a target of training over 1,000 students by the end of 2025. This initiative underscores ICTworks commitment to social impact and their role as a leader in Malawi’s ICT sector. Stay tuned for updates on this transformative project and how it’s empowering Malawi’s youth.
